I’ve been pondering about the ‘Rona.  It’s still around and, in my opinion, no one knows just what the fuck is going on.

There are folks out there who still use it as a drum to beat one way or the other.  It has become more of a political shibboleth than a frank discussion of immunology, epidemiology, and treatment modalities.  It makes no sense to me that this occurs, but since most of the world makes no sense to me, I just put it down as par for the course.

My thoughts on it are simple.  It is an offshoot of the not-very-popular motto of the eighties “Shit Happens”.  Everyone is pointing around madly, as if assigning blame and fretting about the fact that the actions of others will always impinge on you isn’t a new thing.

I think that, in the end, it is all about risk management.  I think that the vaxx might well have helped more people than it hurt.  The problem was that the risks were unknown and the only way to tell if things would work out is to let it rip.  Some people drew a bad hand in terms of their personal immunology, but that happens in medicine at all levels, there isn’t anything like a risk-free cure available in anything, all there is is taking a chance that a specific treatment will work to alleviate the problem.

I think that folks ought to take time to head over and read Aurelian’s post from 021324.  In a sense, the scenarios described by this essay defines the way that the whole vaxx train got up and ran out of control.

Look, we tried, it didn't work that great for some folks and now we are looking at the blowback of a rushed “fix” to a poorly understood problem.  Everyone is acting like life should be risk-free.

Good luck with that.

On a homefront kind of discussion, which I am finding much more fulfilling than the clown-car that passes itself as “important news” and which I have no influence on whatsoever, let's get back to talking about tempeh.  While I seem to have a good handle on temperature control, I think that I also need to consider the way the temperature and airflow is distributed.  This latest batch is nice and solid on the top but is sparse on the bottom.  I am thinking (without proof) that the bag-o-beans needs to be on a rack to allow airflow to the bottom of the bag (where things aren’t looking all that great right now).
